They say that war changes people.
They say that soldiers deserve respect,
They say that he is always right with his decisions.
They say that we will be able to do anything we want to.
They say we will have a life after war, after the military.
But we are just pawns.
We are there to push everything into play.
To sacrifice ourselves for the cause.
Why?
Why must we sacrifice ourselves,
Just to protect the king?
We are trained to kill.
To accept death.
And yet, we are never ready when our comrades fall.
We are just their toys,
Toys that are being placed into position to lose.
To fall.
To die.
I’m a pawn.
A pawn in this bloody war.
And that’s what I will always be.
Because I was trained to save the world.
Not to live.
So put me into position.
Sacrifice me for the cause.
After all,
I’m just a pawn.

I like the way you start it, but maybe you could use 'I' more often? As in only one person's perspective.
